A Rare Sight: Snow on Satellite in Early November

After a big snowfall, snow can often be picked up on visible satellite images when there are no clouds overhead.

The image below comes from a polar orbiting satellite. This type of satellite takes pictures of the earth at a maximum resolution of 250m. That is very high resolution!

You can clearly see that not everyone saw significant snowfall! Most of the snow fell south of Hartford and west of Windham. A band of heavy snow did extend north through the Worcester area. Notice that even New Jersey saw significant snowfall – barely a week and a half after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the coastline from Maryland to Massachusetts.
